ares de Lindos vs 300 aEC. Disciple of the Lisipo sculptor, mentioned by Polibio, Pliny, Filo'n de Byzantium, Stobaeus and Estrabón. His more famous work is the Colossus of Rhodes, gigantic bronze statue, considered one of the seven Wonders of the World. With 33 ms of height, it weighed 225 tons, and it took 12 years in being constructed (292-280 aJC), by means of successive evacuatings in a sand hill, that was retired in the end. aJC succumbed to an earthquake in 220, and it was never reconstructed; Estrabón tells that “the oracle was against”. Their rest, sold to a merchant, were transported to backs of 900 camels.
Later, with evident exaggeration, it was represented with so colossal dimensions that the boats happened between their legs. |
